Monday Memories: inhale

Both my kids are pretty sick right now- bad coughs, runny noses, respiratory crap- notice, the lack of blogging. We've been in and out of the Dr's office and urgent care these last couple of days. I've always said I've been extremely lucky in the sick baby department. Will was never sick his entire 1st year until right after Patrick's accident. He was hospitalized with RSV just weeks later. I know it was from the hundreds of people who were in our house the month of January. That's when I realized Will had his daddy's bad lungs. Come to find out after this weekend, both my kids have his lungs. They are both on inhalers and breathing treatments.

It reminds me of a trip we took to Lake Havasu with my parents. I woke up in the middle of the night and Patrick was missing from our bed. I got up and searched our hotel room but he was no where to be found. I frantically called his cell phone hoping he would answer. As it rang and rang my mind ran through the possibilities of where he could be. He didn't answer. I stayed up, waiting for him and finally, after another half hour he returned. Turns out he started to have an asthma attack in the middle of the night but didn't want to wake and worry me. He went downstairs to the front desk and called for a cab to pick him up. The cab was taking too long as his attack worsened, so he decided to walk himself to the pharmacy to pick up an inhaler. All this at about 2am while we all slept. I wish he has woke me to go with him or help in some way.
I have a feeling these inhalers will be apart of our lives for years to come.

Erynn, Sorry to hear about the kids being sick and their lungs. :( My son was on an inhaler and breathing treatments too. It seemed like every other month we were in the ER with him. He got pneumonia was he was 9 mos and that turned into asthma. Hang in there! XX

Poor babies! And you too. I use an inhaler, it's just part of my life now. Hopefully this will just pass for them after they start feeling better. Hang in there.

If I can give you the tiniest bit of hope... my brother used to have horrible asthma and respiratory problems when we were little (16 months apart, he's older) and I was put on an inhaler too for a short time during elementary school... anyway, poor kid had to be on the breathing machine for treatments twice a day for a LONG time, supplemented with an inhaler during the day and while playing sports, somehow when he hit college he grew out of it and hasn't had much of a problem ever since and neither have I. Some of us are lucky enough to grow out of it!! My friends' 12 yr old son did too... Hopefully your 2 will as well.
Wishing you the best and hoping the kids get better soon.
