BOO-ing

I had no idea what "BOO-ing" was until Patrick and I moved into our 1st home together in 2006. I LOVED the idea... anything to get the neighborhood active with one another and how sweet of them to include us new kids on the block. I just moved into my new house last November so I wasn't in the new neighborhood for Halloween last year. Plus with it being new construction everyone was cooped up in their homes while all the construction continued.. now that all the dust, tractors and workers have parted, it's time to start some neighborhood traditions. So I took it upon myself to start BOO-ing on my street. If you've never heard of it before here's a quick summary:

This is a fun surprise gift that is left on someone's door without them knowing who left it! Gather some treats, instructions for your neighbor and a door sign for them to hang once they've been BOO-ed so other neighbors will know who's already been BOO-ed. Place the treats at their door, ring their doorbell and run! Don't let me see who BOO-ed them! Pretty simple!

Here's what I did this year...

october

We've been keeping pretty busy over here and as you can see my blog has taken a back seat.. I also realized that I've been using FB as a way to keep family and close friends updated on our lives, the kids and of course pics.. which then has me forgetting to re-post on my blog... Between Vegas, a girls weekend and just getting back {well, a week ago} from my 1st real, kid-free vacation in nearly two years... 9 glorious days of white sand beaches, warm weather and of course.. sleeping in. Back to reality with 2 sick toddlers, broken sleep and breathing treatments for two 4 times a day. Just hoping to get my little ones better before Halloween so they are both able to do our 1st Trick or Treating together.

2+2

I was in the car, driving back from some errands and grabbing lunch earlier today when I started to think about my life 4 years ago. What I was doing, where I was.. I loved where my life was heading and the excitement of the unknown in our future together. I knew no matter what, we were in it together. We were a team and we were ready for our ride through life. As these thoughts ran through my head while driving, my eyes started to water which led to bigger tears. I quickly slipped my sunglasses on and lowered the sun visor above my head to block other motorist from viewing my meltdown. The excitement that once ran through my body quickly transformed to uncertainty, doubt and fear of what my future held once Patrick died. Tomorrow marks what would have been our 4 year wedding anniversary. I'm the kind of person who doesn't think about events or dates far in advance. I think it's part of some healing mechanism within me... but everyone is different. For some reason it hit me a little bit today and I think it was good, I needed it. I reminded myself that I had the privilege to celebrate 2 wedding anniversaries with Patrick.. as the thought of this being our 2nd anniversary apart quickly followed. I know from here on out the number of anniversaries we've spent apart will outnumber those together.
4 years ago I thought I had a lifetime of anniversaries in our future.
