BOO-ing

I had no idea what "BOO-ing" was until Patrick and I moved into our 1st home together in 2006. I LOVED the idea... anything to get the neighborhood active with one another and how sweet of them to include us new kids on the block. I just moved into my new house last November so I wasn't in the new neighborhood for Halloween last year. Plus with it being new construction everyone was cooped up in their homes while all the construction continued.. now that all the dust, tractors and workers have parted, it's time to start some neighborhood traditions. So I took it upon myself to start BOO-ing on my street. If you've never heard of it before here's a quick summary:

This is a fun surprise gift that is left on someone's door without them knowing who left it! Gather some treats, instructions for your neighbor and a door sign for them to hang once they've been BOO-ed so other neighbors will know who's already been BOO-ed. Place the treats at their door, ring their doorbell and run! Don't let me see who BOO-ed them! Pretty simple!

Here's what I did this year...

I wanted to do this, but only found out about it like 2 weeks ago. figured it was too close to the holiday and not many would do it.

I think 2 weeks is plenty of time! Your neighbors are only supposed to have 2 days to keep the BOO going on and BOO two more neighbors after they are BOOed.. so it moved pretty quickly. I just started it in my neighborhood last week.

Neat idea! Similar to the May baskets we used to do on May 1st
years ago (a tradition my local garden club is trying to bring back by leaving flowers on neighbors' porches instead of baskets filled with goodies.)

Kind of scary, especially with all of the twisted creeps in the world. Anyone could put any type of arsenic, anthrax, chemicals in stuff and leave it. I'd be scared to get it and feel really creepy leaving it to be honest.

^ I guess, but that can be with anything in life, right? Could happen with your mail sitting in your mailbox, your Starbucks drink, trick or treating candy, your meal out to dinner ect. I trust my neighbors and don't live in fear.
