Monday Memories: Look What I Found!

While re-organizing the garage for the 3rd or 4th time this morning, I came across a unmarked box that I hadn't cleaned out yet. I started digging and looking around, trying to figure out what this box housed. I saw a few picture frames, a baseball piggy bank, a really old Christmas stocking with PATRICK stitched on it... and towards the bottom of the box I found this:

I hardly even remember doing this, but after reading it and looking at all the clippings it started to come back to me. It was 2001 and Patrick was graduating from high school. He had already signed a contract to play baseball at Pepperdine. At this point we had been dating for almost a year and this poem was our year in review. {Remember, this was almost 9 years ago. I was 16!)

As I walked into math
One Monday morning
God directed my path
Cause I couldn't help noticing
You at your seat
When your eyes met mine
Fate that we would meet
It must have been a sign

I never said a word
For 2 full years
And when I heard
You cause some tears
I expressed a few feelings
And conquered my fears
Through 7 innings
My words got around
Heard throughout the bases
Even on the mound

It was a Thursday night
At Esperanza's football game
I had you in my sight
But I only knew your name
That very next day
You just couldn't wait
You didn't know what to say
But I could tell you wanted a date

A walk across the street
Was all it took
Surprised that we would meet
They just had to stop and look
To our first date
At Woodranch & Urban Legends II
Sine the start you were always late
From then on it was just me and you

As your birthday rolled around
On the 17th day of November
My heart is what you found
It was a night to remember
In January came Winter Formal
Our first dance together
It was simply incredible
It couldn't have been better

Senior Prom 2001
An unforgettable night
It was so much fun
Everything went just right
Red dress and white tux
Pictures, dinner and dancing too
It costs big bucks
But all worth it for you
It went by so fast
But our memories will forever last

Sunset League Champions
You played like a pro
There was some hard competition
But how would I know
High school graduation
All of a sudden it's here
It's time to move on
From the past 4 years

Bound for baseball on the beach
Off to Pepperdine as a Wave
All your goals you shall always reach
For the paths you've already paved
Your accomplishments could make a list
Now to college, learning to save a buck
But trust me, you'll be missed
Patrick, I wish you the best of luck.

Even at 16 years, you could just hear the love and passion behind what you guys had together. You are too sweet to write this and make the little framed baseball clippings picture... What a great girlfriend and even better wife.

I think about you so often and find myself shaking my head at what you have to deal with and what you have been through. I'm pretty sure we're the same age and I think about having to deal with something like that myself. I just don't know how you do it... I don't know how you go on. It's just so hard for me to understand to grasp.

I'm so sorry that this happened and I'm so sorry that you'll be celebrating without him this year...

Take care and keep strong... You are amazing!
