I have this linen cabinet area that I haven't done anything with yet. I didn't realize when I picked out my kitchen cabinet color, that the same color cabinets would be put everywhere in the house {bathrooms, laundry room ect}. The cabinets blend with the neutral paint color I have in the hallways. I know eventually a possibility is to have the cabinets refinished but I don't want to spend money on that right now. So far I've changed out the silver knobs the builder installed to oil rubbed bronze. What are your ideas on what I should do with this space?

Well, I'm not much of a decorator but I see you have room at the top of the cabinet and the ceiling. Maybe some silk plants up top would liven it up a bit. Additionally, maybe a couple of rugs in front? Hugs and Kisses to you and the kids Erynn!

What about some cute framed laundry-esque pictures to be hung under the cabinets? I've seen some pictures that are of the care label symbols on clothes tags- the no iron, no bleach, etc. Or even just black and white pics of laundry hanging out to dry.
I love the look of little Ball jars filled with clothespins or laundry soap since you have so much counter space to work with.
Hey mama! My first thought is to paint the wall directly behind the cabinets a darker color that still matches the adjacent wall. Maybe a dark taupe or even a brown color. That way it will kinda make the cabinets "pop" a little.
I don't know what's to the left of the cabinets in this picture though, b/c you'd have to extend the darker paint color from the corner all the way to the end of the wall (where ever it ends ;)
I'm sure you'll come up with something great!
I would do a pinstripe glaze, that would warm them up and look great with your new knobs. If you google you can find lots of info and how to videos.
The problem is it's not near the laundry room and Reese's room is the door on the left of then photo and the wall continues to the right of the photo to another bedroom.
DO you have a "message center" in your home yet? I think it would be the perfect place to do something like that. I would paint the cabinets white. And the square on the bottom diagnol cabinet could be painted with chalkboard paint for Will & Reese to draw on. You could frame some of their artwork to hang in the area. Your phone could go there. Calendar, files...Here's a couple of cute ideas

I had this same problem with a section of cabinets Erynn! I added all different kinds of glass bottles that I've found along the beach and also some that were just neat looking in stores on top of mine!(I had to use some wood to put them on because the tops of my cabinets were a lot lower than the trim) I also added a small lamp on the counter and tons of B&W pics. of the kids playing in laundry and towels along the wall! Ended up turning into my favorite area...I laugh everytime I walk by it:)
What will the cabinets be used for? (Kid's storage, games, etc.) How about painting the cabinets white, and then painting some or all of the inserts w/ chalkboard paint? Paint is cheap and would really make a fun area for you and the kiddos!
add some pretty framed family photos, greenery and books or colored glass bottles would look good
I would do a iridecent (sp) backsplash type thing with cute tile. Something neutral and then on the top I woud lean some large letters to spell your last name
Is that at the top of the stairs? I'd paint them white or remove them and sell them on craigslist.
Here are some great info for painting cabinets.

I am a decorator and here's my thoughts. No offense to Anon. but I am against fake plants as a rule. If this isn't your laundry room but actually part of the hallway than I would do a cool placement of objects on that counter to bring some color and some life to the space. One of my favorite things to do, that always works is to use books as decorative objects. I then combine the books with a few other things like art objects, art etc. It's hard to explain in writing. CHeck out apartment therapy.com for an endless supply of photos and ideas.
Love the idea of black and white laundry themed photos up top of cabinets, but how about a nice, dark green plant on the left side. One that is sort of a round ball on top (I don't know names of plants very well) Then maybe three apothecary jars, two tall and thin and the other wider. Maybe fill one with laundry pins? Cool looking beige sponges in the other. I also love the idea of a square or round darker colored basket with bright, white towels rolled up in them.
so much you could do here... Ross has some great basket type things and you could do towels in them (I roll mine up like toilet paper rolls)... you could also place some pictures on there for now as well... do you use this area for any part of laundry (i.e. folding, sorting, etc.)? that might limit what you can do with it... you have such excellent taste though, I'm sure you'll come up with something fabulous ;-) Kristy has some awesome ideas... I love the glass jar idea as well!
I would use the counter for various framed pics of family and friends.
