juggling act

for a little background... Patrick & I have two adorable puppies, Duke {choc lab} and Daisy {cocker spaniel}. Daisy was my wedding gift from P. We picked them up after we returned from our honeymoon on the same day, so they have been together ever since. They will be 3 next month, so I guess they aren't really considered puppies anymore but they sure act like it.

P did everything for the pups. He picked up the poop, washed them, fed, them, walked them, threw balls for them, trained them. You name it he, he did it. The only time I did these things was when he was traveling for work. Picking up poop literally makes me gag, especially while pregnant.

After Patrick died all those responsibilities shifted to who else but me. Plus the addition of Miss Reese, it's a little overwhelming at times. 2 dogs, 2 babies under 2, no husband. I feel horrible for Duke because he was Patrick's dog and he is a very loyal dog. He adored Patrick and went into the office with him almost daily {as I took Daisy into mine when I was working}. Before the accident Patrick was training for a half marathon and often too Duke on his runs to exercise him.

I've decided that once I move at the end of the year, Patrick's brother is going to take Duke. He is a huge dog lover and Duke will get loads of attention from him. I also know that P's bro feels a connection to P through Duke and it will be good for the both of them. I'm thankful Duke will be able to remain in the family so I can see him whenever I want. I am a little worried about separating the two but I have to do what's best for me at this point.

Such a hard decision Erynn, but you're right, you have to do what's best for you. Duke will be so happy with your BIL.

Your BIL and Duke are going to be great for each other. And you will get to see him whenever you want! You are right, you have to do what is best for you. In this situation, everyone will win.

Aww, could they be any cuter!!??

I a sure it saddens you to have to let go of one of the pups but I have to agree 100% ... it's too much for you and you will still get to see him :) . . .

When I read your post about your MIL losing her husband and first born it literally sent chills up me just thinking about my first born (and 2nd)

I've said it before but I am sooo soooo sorry for you loss. and your MILs loss. off to check out her blog.

I hope Duke will be happy with BIL! I'm sure he will! It's so nice that you'll be able to visit him whenever you want and that you KNOW he is going to a great owner that will give him tons of love. I totally respect you for making such a hard decision, but maybe it is best for everyone. BIL is a lucky guy to have him.

Beautiful dogs. I am with you on giving Duke to P's brother. I think it will work out great.

You're moving? Where to? Good luck with all that goes along with it.

My pug Roxie was my wedding present too! I'm sorry you have to let go of Duke but I can't imagine dealing with all that either. Thankful that you'll still get to see him though.

First of all great pictures!

second of all I'm glad Colin is going to take him. I'm sure he feels a connection with Duke. I'm glad you came to this decision, as hard as it is for you. I'm so glad you are making choices that are right for you and your needs. I think that is so important!
