Monday Memories: Elk Hunts

It's that time of year. This week Patrick's brothers were out in the boonies of Colorado, participating in their annual elk hunt. Patrick, his dad and his brothers did this every single year for who knows how many years now. This was their first hunt without Bill and Patrick.

I was never a huge fan of this but I know it was a part of their childhood, male bonding and tradition. The weeks leading up to the hunt all the boys would start growing out their beards, lining all the camp gear up in the garage and practiced with a rubber dear in the backyard.
I remember the excitement in the boys' voices when they'd return from their trip and gave us the play by plays. The freezers full of elk meat was always a plus too!

no rifles here.. old school bow and arrow style
he wanted to put this thing in our house.. what was he smokin'?

That last picture is awesome. Im not sure how you would have decorated around that thing :) Somehow you would have made it fabulous though if you had to.

Jamie almost didn't hunt this year but I told him he needed to, if for no other reason that to honor P. He went out this weekend and said he kept asking P to help him get one.

gosh I can't wait til Will joins the boys in honor of his Dad. xoxo. I love that last pic! So classic. I would break my vegetarianism and eat an elk sausage in honor of P.

So great that Sean and Colin continued the tradition. I bet they can't wait until Will can join in the fun!

Boys have some of the weirdest suggestions when it comes to decorating or just displaying something that they are proud of... that's an ugly head not to mention the size of those antlers!!! WOW!

I haven't been able to stop thinking about that. :(

Hate hunting, but have a huge respect for those that go out with bow and arrow and without all the high-tech gear and actually keep it a sport. Glad they continued the tradition. Did you know they make child bows that the kids can pull around age 2-3? Robert has already been looking at them for Aerowyn since we both shoot.
