our 5 year anniversay

Although in my last post I said I never pressured him but I did always tell he had a 5 year limit.. it was our inside joke and he always replied with "then you better start looking for a new boyfriend." He wanted our proposal to be unexpected and a total surprise.

When October 7, 2005 came around, we hit that "5 year mark." He told me he made plans for us but it was a surprise.. and that was it. It was a Friday so I had work all day while I had to anxiously await our big date night. Patrick had been in Colorado {I think} earlier in the week and was supposed to be flying back that Friday to make it in time. While sitting at my desk at work at 8 in the morning, a dozen roses were delivered. Instead of the traditional ugly cards that the florist fills out for the customer over the phone, my roses came with a laminated, personalized, photo card that read "Happy 5 year anniversary." Then a photo of us followed by a movie quote underneath. & Love, Patirck. I thought to myself how sweet of him, put them up on display on my desk and got back to work. He was flying so I couldn't call him to thank him. At 9am another dozen roses were delivered. A different color, a different photo card & a different movie quote. Same thing at 10 and 11! When I got the 2nd bouquet I realized I was probably going to get 5, for our 5 year anniversary. Made sense. Each dozen were different colors and new pics and quotes. They started off about love and with each dozen the quote got a little deeper and hinted a little more about marriage. The one quote that sticks out in my mind was "When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible." {When Harry Met Sally}
If you don't know Patrick, he was a huge movie fanatic. I could do a whole past on his movie obsession. So these cards were so him and so perfect.

While on the phone with my girlfriend, my coworker taps on my window and motions to look behind me.. I turn and here comes Patrick, dressed in a full on suit, holding the 5th and final bouquet of red roses. Following behind him are several of my family members, my parents, his parents & brothers and many coworkers. I quickly told my girlfriend, "Omg he is here! I gotta go!"
He got down on one knee
whipped out a ring and asked me to be his wife...
I guess I said yes?
I wish someone would have told me to dress up a little more that day! But I didn't care~ finally, after 5 years we were engaged! Everything was document in photos and video.. They even taped him in the IHOP parking lot where may dad met up with him and his family before they drove over to my work. Afterwards people would ask me if I knew he was going to propose. I thought maybe he would do it at dinner or later that night but I never imagined he was going to show up at my work. So much be "flying home!"

Guess he made the "5 year limit" just in the nick of time!

I love this story - I remember talking to you all day long as this was going on and then I got the "Shh IM ENGAGED" message. I was so excited for you. P was so thoughtful and knew what would get you off gurad and knew how to incorporate just the right things special to each of you. How I wish he was here with you, celebrating 3 years. But I know he is, each and every day. hugs.
